Resources for Safe and Responsible AI in Ed Tech

As AI-enabled tools become more prevalent in schools, developers need practical guidance for designing and implementing products that support learning while protecting students. With support from the Oak Foundation, The Learning Agency and Renaissance Philanthropy created the resources below to help ed tech developers put safe and responsible AI practices into action.

Guidelines for the Safe and Responsible Use of AI in Ed Tech

Drawing on experience managing the global Tools Competition and other education R&D initiatives, The Learning Agency and Renaissance Philanthropy identified and compiled successful safeguarding strategies. The guide organizes these strategies into a set of principles and corresponding actions, with examples to make the guidance more tangible.

The guide reflects both proven safeguarding practices and emerging best practices. As AI capabilities and risks continue to evolve, these guidelines will need to evolve alongside them.

Webinar Series

This three-part series builds on the guidelines, bringing together educators, researchers, and ed tech leaders to discuss how developers can apply safe and responsible AI practices in the design and implementation of their innovations.

Centering Educational Outcomes in AI-Enabled Tools

This webinar explored actionable strategies for keeping educational outcomes at the center of AI-enabled tools. Strategies discussed include co-designing with users, centering humans in design and implementation, embedding pedagogical guardrails, and continuously evaluating and improving tools.
